NGC-6914

This is a beautiful reflection nebulosity region lying within the huge Gamma Cygni emission nebula IC1318. This is a Sky 90 image taken using the old SXV-H9C camera. This image represents approximately 4 hours of RGB data using 3 minute subs and 4 hours of H-alpha using 6 minute subs.
This is a Sky 90 image taken using the old SXV-H9C camera. This image represents approximately 4 hours of RGB data using 3 minute subs and 4 hours of H-alpha using 6 minute subs.Just one tiny mistake in the description – Sadr isn’t in the image.

The Nebula in Orion

This widefield Sky 90/M25C image of the Great Nebula in Orion region also contains quite a lot of data. In total approximately 8 hours of RGB data and 4 hours of H-alpha went into creating this image. That's 12 hours of exposure time, and a similar amount of Noel's image processing time!!
No matter how many publications you have, a new publication is always exciting. The July 2007 issue of Sky at Night magazine is including our widefield M42 image on the cover CD-ROM.This image was taken with the Sky 90/SXVF-M25C combination.
This is one of my top ten favourite images and shows just how far really have come in two years (and maybe just how far we have to go!).

M-29

Managed to get some good imaging time with the Sky-90 and SXV-H9C combination – the result is this image of M29 “The Cooling Tower”.
Only 13 sub-exposures at 3-minutes per sub using the Sky 90 and SXV-H9C camera.

Complete horsehead and Belt region of Orion

It was while putting together my top 10 that I realised there had been a serious omission!I have not put up the definitive Horsehead and Belt region of Orion on the NFO site, although it had appeared way back in January 2009 as a 2-page spread article in Astronomy Now magazine. This is a massive 2-framer taken with the Sky 90 and SXVF-M25C.Not only that, each frame comprises, RGB, H-alpha and H-beta data as well. Many, many hours of data acquisition (around 40!) and many, many hours of Noel’s processing time (at least another 40!) bring you …

IC:443 the Jellyfish nebula

Great news again! The Parker/Carboni double-team got their rendition of the Jellyfish Nebula region in this month’s Astronomy Now as Picture of the Month!!Thank you once again to Nik Szymanek for a very nice accompanying description.

The third frame in the Markarian galaxy mosaic

Noel has just completed processing the 3rd frame in the Markarian Chain mosaic.
This frame will be added to the previous 2-frames to give a panoramic view of the region containing not only the whole of Markarian’s Chain, but also a fair few Messier galaxies as well.

The Cave nebula in Cepheus

Noel is plugging away at old data in every spare minute he has whilst working on a big software project. He has created this superb image of the Cave nebula in Cepheus taken with the Sky 90/M25C combination. This image is a total exposure time of 16.6 hours using RGB and H-alpha data.

IC:1805 the Heart nebula in Cassiopeia

Noel Carboni is putting the finishing touches to Star Vistas as this post goes out, and he created this deep-space masterpiece from a collection of old NFO data. The appropriately named Heart Nebula is a favourite target for Northern-Hemisphere amateur astroimagers.

edward0102 发表于 2009-10-18 04:45

the Veil nebula

Noel reprocessed the Veil nebula data making the stars less obtrusive and sharpening up the nebulosity a little to emphasize the filaments. It’s a personal choice as to which version you prefer – I like the down-played stars myself.

M-31

M31 with additional RGB and H-alpha data - 26 hours and 7 minutes in total.
Noel is getting all the data prepared for the coffee-table book and is now mopping up stuff from last year. Here we have an updated image of M31.
The basis of this image was actually first light for the M25C way back on Fri 22nd September 2006!Five and a half hours of RGB using 4-minute subs, and Noel having to work enormous magic to get the right colour as the firmware hex file was not correct for the M25C at the time!!!
We then go to 2007 for, Wed 3rd Oct 2007, 2 hours using 20-minute subs H-alpha – Sat 6th Oct 2007, 2.5 hours 450 second subs RGB -Wed 17th Oct 2007, 4 hours 35 minutes using 750 second subs RGB – and finally Fri 2nd November 2007, 6 hours and 12 minutes using 6-minute subs RGB.Grand total 20 hours 47 minutes.Obsessive?Moi?
Noel has just informed me that I missed one session out!On Thursday 15th November 2007 I also captured 5 hours and 20-minutes of H-alpha data using 20-minute subs. That now brings the running total to just 7-minutes over 26 hours!!!

M78 and Barnard's Loop

Early draft of the M78 region.
The fourth image in the 6-night marathon is M78 and part of Barnard’s Loop in Orion. This is a work in progress as so far this is only 4 hours of RGB data using 15-minute subs – and with an intrusive Moon.Noel’s expert processing has already created quite a nice image, but we need more data, and I need to move the whole frame to the right to get more of Barnard’s Loop in the FOV.

edward0102 发表于 2009-10-18 04:57

M35 and NGC:2158

The second image from the 6-night marathon session this month is a nice pair of open clusters in Gemini – M35 and NGC2158.This image comprises 39 sub-exposures at 6-minutes per sub or just 6-minutes short of 4-hours in total.

The Owl nebula and M108

We have just had six clear nights in a row – which for me personally is an all-time record!Got a few reasonable images during this period, unfortunately last couple of days had the Moon intruding, but we can’t have everything.
This first image is the Owl nebula a planetary nebula, and nearby galaxy M108, both in Ursa Major. This is an RGB image comprising 11 subs at 15 minutes per sub giving a total of 2 hours and forty five minutes.

The Rosette nebula

The Rosette nebula with reprocessed OIII.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Noel Carboni revisited the original data and reprocessed the Rosette from scratch. You can see from the attached image that he has squeezed the last ounce out of this one.I think we can safely tick this one off the list now.
