罗塞塔"彗星探测器 飞掠小行星鲁特西亚(已补图)

新华网7月11日报道 欧洲航天局10日晚间发表公报说,“罗塞塔”彗星探测器于当天近距离飞掠小行星“鲁特西亚”,并传回首批高清晰图像。
公报说,“罗塞塔”与“鲁特西亚”最近的飞掠发生在格林尼治时间10日18时10分,当时两者的距离约为3162公里。在此期间,“罗塞塔”观测到一个拉长的椭圆星体在不断旋转,从而证实了科学家此前对“鲁特西亚”形状的猜测。此外,“罗塞塔”传回的首批图片显示,“鲁特西亚”的表面布满陨石坑,这说明该小行星曾经遭受过多次外来天体的剧烈撞击。
欧航局表示,虽然“罗塞塔”的飞掠时间非常短暂,但已足够探测器携带的相机对其进行拍摄,这些数据将先后传回地球,为科学家研究“鲁特西亚”提供第一手的数据。
飞掠成功后,欧航局科学和自动探测负责人戴维·索思伍德在该机构的直播节目中表示,此举对欧洲乃至整个世界的天文学研究都是历史性的一刻,“罗塞塔”的表现堪称完美,但这只是第一步,接下来科研人员将对传回的数据进行处理。
“鲁特西亚”是一颗在火星和木星轨道间运行的小行星,至今没有人了解它真正的“长相”。欧航局希望通过“罗塞塔”近距离的观测,解开诸多未解之谜。
