“友谊7号”
2011年7月18日（北京时间7月19日）是约翰•格伦的九十大寿。
约翰•格伦于美国东部时间1962年2月20日上午9点47分在卡纳维拉尔角的14号发射区升空，成为第一个环绕地球飞行的美国人。在这张图片里，格伦在工作人员的帮助下进入了“友谊7号”太空舱。
格伦在加入NASA之前已经是一位享有声誉的飞行员，他曾获得了杰出飞行十字勋章，对韩任务海军集体嘉奖，二战胜利勋章，海军“太空人之翼”勋章，NASA杰出服务勋章等荣誉。
格伦于1998年重新加入NASA，成为发现号STS-95任务的成员之一。这一任务从10月29日开始到11月7日结束，为期9天。其间为哈勃太空望眼镜轨道系统测试平台提供了多种研究载荷，并且对航天飞行与老化过程进行了调查研究。

Friendship 7
Today, July 18, 2011, is John Glenn's 90th birthday.
On Feb. 20, 1962 at 9:47 am EST, Glenn launched from Cape Canaveral's Launch Complex 14 to become the first American to orbit the Earth. In this image, Glenn enters his Friendship 7 capsule with assistance from technicians to begin his historic flight.
Before joining NASA, Glenn already had a distinguished career as a pilot, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross, Navy Unit Commendation for service in Korea, the World War II Victory Medal, the Navy's Astronaut Wings, the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, among others.
Glenn rejoined NASA in 1998 as a member of the STS-95 Discovery crew. This 9-day mission, from Oct. 29-Nov. 7, supported a variety of research payloads including deployment of the Hubble Space Telescope Orbital Systems Test Platform and investigations on space flight and the aging process.

测器飞行探测过的最大的小行星。在这张图片里，灶神星的大小让其他的星体相形见绌。
因为灶神星直径约330英里（530千米），大小近似于行星，所以它同样被认为是一颗原行星。

Vesta Sizes Up
This composite image shows the comparative sizes of nine asteroids. Up until now, Lutetia, with a diameter of 81 miles (130 kilometers), was the largest asteroid visited by a spacecraft, which occurred during a flyby. Vesta dwarfs all other small bodies in this image.
Asteroid Vesta also is considered a protoplanet because it's a large body that almost became a planet and has a diameter of approximately 330 miles (530 kilometers).

Securing the space shuttle fleet's place in history, Atlantis marked the26th nighttime landing of NASA's Space Shuttle Program and the 78th landing atKennedy. Main gear touchdown was at 5:57:00 a.m. EDT, followed by nose geartouchdown at 5:57:20 a.m., and wheelstop at 5:57:54 a.m. On board are STS-135Commander Chris Ferguson, Pilot Doug Hurley, and Mission Specialists SandraMagnus and Rex Walheim. On the 37th shuttle mission to the International SpaceStation, STS-135 delivered more than 9,400 pounds of spare parts, equipment andsupplies in the Raffaello multi-purpose logistics module that will sustainstation operations for the next year.
