The beauty of the unexpected is remarkably clear in a new photo of a sleeping South African lion was released by National Geographic.
The male lion makes a striking subject as his light white fur stands in stark contrast to the green South African fields.
National Geographic's weekly collection of moving photos shows a wide range of natural beauty from around the globe.

Another interesting subject is an Indian crocodile, who may not be a comforting image to many, but the looming fear surrounding the animal certainly helps to make a stunning picture.
The violent side of wildlife is on full display with a proud fox clenching onto it's chipmunk prey in one photo.
The calm side of some feared predators also makes for interesting images as two barn owls were seen sitting near one another at the Carrizo Plain National Monument in California.
The collection takes a turn towards inanimate objects with pictures of cloudy skies above a city skyline and a mountaintop in Grindelwald, Switzerland.
