弗雷德·惠普耳先生去世

杰出的彗星、流星专家弗雷德·惠普耳，在即将度过98岁生日的时候，于8月30日不幸逝世。

惠普耳出生于1906年，他最大的功绩是预言预言彗核的“脏雪球”模型，并在1986年得到证实。除此以外，惠普耳在流星方面也做出了极大的贡献。

S&T called him together with Kuiper and Oort as the three great men in this field in last November's issue about the New Horizon mission. I am sorry that I cannot input Chinese in our lab's PC.
