占个坑，第2950颗 June is being VERY quiet, it seems. We've only have five Kreutz this
month (and two of those were REALLY close to being x-comets!). In
previous June months we've had 17 (2014), 24 (2013), 22 (2012),
22 (2011), 21 (2010)... This definitely pushes back my #3,000
prediction well into August, if not September. But, that said, the
comets frequently do surprise us. Maybe a big storm is around the
corner? :)
I might be a bit quiet for the next two weeks as I take care of
some other things. I will be keeping an eye on everything, as usual,
though.

So our "slow" June did manage to redeem itself, and we ended with 19
for the month - same as 2014, and close to 2012. For the year as a
whole the numbers are very typical, if perhaps a little high. Typical
discovery count by June 30 for the past few years is:
2015 - 112
2014 - 98
2013 - 116
2012 - 109
2011 - 107
The four-year average for comet discoveries in both July and August is
about 14/month, so we should reach 2,900 by the end of July and 3,000 by
mid-August or so.
As always, email me with questions, corrections, etc. I don't always get
chance to respond to every email, but I do read them!
