NASA: 4 out of 6 Russian space station computers up and running(CNN) -- Four out of six International Space Station computers began working Friday after the station's commander rigged a jumper cable to bypass a switch that was turning off and on, NASA officials said.
It was unclear what caused the switch to fail. The other two were not on only because astronauts have not turned them on, CNN's Miles O'Brien reported.
Only two of the computers are needed to run the space station. The plan is to run the computers overnight and analyze data on Saturday, according to NASA.
The array of six computers controls functions such as lighting, air and the space station's orientation to the sun. (Posted 6:16 p.m.)
