Explanation:
NGC 1333 is seen in visible light asa reflection nebula,dominated by bluish hues characteristic of starlight reflected by dust.A mere 1,000 light-years distant toward the heroic constellationPerseus,it lies at the edge of a large,star-forming molecular cloud.This striking close-up view spansabout 4 light-years at the estimated distanceofNGC 1313.It shows details of the dusty regionalong with hints of contrasting emission in redjetsand glowing gas from recently formed stars.In fact, NGC 1333 contains hundreds of stars less thana million years old,most still hidden from opticaltelescopes by the pervasive stardust.The chaotic environment may be similar to one in which our own Sunformed over 4.5 billion years ago.

在可見光波段，NGC 1333被歸類為反射星雲，它藍色的特徵來自波塵埃反射的星光。位在英仙座、離我們只有一千光年遠的NGC 1333，本身位在一個龐大恆星誕生大分雲的邊緣。依NGC 1313所在的距離來估計，這幅精彩的特寫影像涵蓋了四光年的區域。影像除了呈現這個塵埃區的細微結構之外，也有來自最近恆星誕生所產生的噴流和輝光雲氣之對比性紅色輻射。而NGC 1333之內，就有數百個年齡少於一百萬年，但在廣佈星雲的遮掩下，因此可見光望遠鏡基本上不得見的年輕恆星。這片喧囂的天區，可能和45億年前我們太陽附近區域很相似。

一般来说，星云的蓝色是反射星光所致；粉红/玫瑰红是典型的H-α发射线，基本上都是被周围蓝巨星的强烈紫外光激发的。
至于红色，原因比较多，有的就像我们大气散射星光后剩下红光、红外光一样，有的可能是其他元素的受激发射（比如N和O）。
