A technician straps legendary test pilot Scott Crossfield into the cockpit of the X-15 rocket plane before an early test flight. The X-15's maiden flight occurred on June 8, 1959,during which Crossfield was carried aloft in his sleek, black rocket plane beneath the wing of a B-52 from NASA's Flight Research Center(now NASA Dryden). This was the beginning of nearly a decade of flight research that probed the hypersonic speed realm and altitudes at the edge of space.
在一次早期试飞中，一名技术专家用飞行皮带把传奇的试飞员斯科特•克罗斯菲尔德固定在X-15火箭推进式飞机的小驾驶室中。1959.6.8，X-15进行了处女航，它挂在一架B-52超级空中堡垒的机翼下从NASA德莱登飞行研究中心起飞，克罗斯菲尔德驾驶着黑色光滑的火箭推进式飞机完成了处女航。从此揭开了为期近10年的在大气层边缘进行高超音速飞行研究的序幕。

是怀疑我是copy的还是认为我翻译得差啊？虽然我认为自己英语很差，不过这些文字还不算难吧。我翻译的文字已经超过1万字了吧。

这个图又是非常早的，饱受争议的阿波罗登月计划。

Unlike Earth the moon does not have air, food and water, so it would take a lot of effort for humans to live and work there, wrote Raina Huang, a student at Bexley High School in Columbus, Ohio, and finalist in the second annual NASA Lunar Art Contest.
与地球不同，月球上无水无空气无食物（三无的也能出来混？），所以人类要在月球上生活就得付出百倍的努力——本图是黄蕾娜画的，来自俄亥俄州哥伦布市贝克斯利高中，她在美国宇航局举办的年度“月球艺术大赛”中获得高中部决赛第2名的佳绩。
The contest, sponsored by NASA's Langley Research Center, had a total of 147 entrants from 25 states, France, Poland, India and Romania. A panel of 12 reviewers that included professional artists, scientists, engineers and educators evaluated the entries using three criteria: the artist's statement, creativity and artistic expression, and whether the art represented a valid scenario.
本项比赛由美国宇航局的兰利研究中心主办，共有来自25个州以及法国、波兰、意大利和罗马利亚的147名参赛者送来了作品。12人评选小组中，有职业艺术家、科学家，工程师，也有教师。评选的标准有以下3条：艺术陈述、创意和艺术表达效果，以及如何表述（你的）主题。

希望我国也能多些这种比赛，少些扼杀人性的超级流氓软件，还要强制安装的！

酷图版也来个天文涂鸦比赛吧！

貌似在月球各个基地之间，初期的交通只需使用密封的交通工具就可以了，比如坦克就是不错的选择，当然发动机必须改换。由于月球重力只有地球的1/6，此处是建造大型飞船并前往恒星际空间的好场所。像核动力火箭什么的，在月球建造发射，就不用担心环境问题了。

今天的NASA图集在说的东西，估计大家以前很少见过，因为它是——SOFIA飞行天文台，一架飞机上的红外天文台。Sofia当然是MM的名字了，索菲亚嘛！但它同时是Stratospheric Observatory For Infraed RAy的缩写，（机载）同温层红外天文台。

In the darkened interior of NASA's SOFIA flying observatory, NASA and German scientists study the results of system tests on the telescope assembly, including the gyroscope,system software and wide-field and fine-field imagers.

欧洲、美洲的人都喜欢给自己喜爱的物件、宠物或者工作对象取昵称（这个名词貌似也是音译的），而且都会取女性名字，还有常常用“She”取代“It”的，我一般还是翻译为“它”了。

由于地球大气和水蒸汽的吸收作用，在同温层以上红外观测效果会好得多，当然这个成本明显高于地面天文台。不过比起轨道天文台，应该是便宜的。而且飞机的载荷比轨道天文台强大得多了。

In this image, taken June 14, workers on Kennedy Space Center's Launch Pad 39A prepare to remove the 7-inch quick disconnect and flight seal from the Ground Umbilical Carrier Plate, or GUCP, on space shuttle Endeavour's external fuel tank. Teams are removing the hardware to change out seals in the internal connection points. The GUCP is the overboard vent to the pad and the flare stack where the vented hydrogen is burned off.

On June12, a hydrogen leak caused the STS-127 mission to be scrubbed.Endeavour is scheduled to launch on its STS-127 mission on June 17,2009, at 5:40 a.m. EDT.
