Explanation:
Few auroras show this level of detail.Above, a standard digital camera captured a particularly active and colorfulauroral corona that occurred last week above Alberta, Canada.With a shape reminiscent of a flower, thespectacular aurora had an unusually high degree ofdetail.The vivid green and purple  auroral colors are caused by high atmosphericoxygen andhydrogenreacting to a burst of incomingelectrons.  Many photogenic auroras have been triggered from asolar windstream that recently passed the Earth.The auroras were unexpected because the initiating Sun has beenunusually quiet of late.

很少有极光能达到如此清晰的程度。上面的影像是用一台高级数码相机拍摄，捕捉到了上周发生在加拿大阿尔伯塔上空出现的特殊景象—异常活跃而又色彩缤纷的极光冕。就像一朵花一样，壮观的极光异常清晰。极光颜色鲜明，绿色和紫色是因为高空大气层内氧原子和氢原子与进入大气层的电子暴接触后发生反应引起。许多上镜的极光都是因为太阳风最近通过地球而引发的。极光的出现难以预计，因为最近太阳异常平静。
