hi! this is very cool!  why not link the exe file on that page so that we can download and test it freely?

Hi,

First, the software will be free and opensource … so for download it will be the full test version(alpha test for now) not the demo

I will publish the download link as soon as I finish this porting to Unicode and the test/user documentation. I am sorry I got a bit delayed with the holidays season…

Meanwhile you can send me some of your starry pictures and I will attempt to detect them for you as a test

Yes, it can be used for that as well. Sure is not yet "research grade" .. a lot more testing and fine tuning needs to be done... but for sure since I am tagging everything in the image and compare them with the most uptodate catalogs and surveys this can help in that direction as well.

I have some quick questions:
1. Can the software handle picture taken from non-linear or distorted optics? say from a fish-eye lens?
2. How about star tracks with long exposure?
3. It can handle unknown objects like airplane, satellites around earth, etc or not?
4. Do you know any Chinese language? if not, how did you find this site and post your great idea? I am just curious, you do not have to answer.

1&2.Yes. I implemented various statistical filters, photometry classifications etcto handle lens distortion and star trails .. you can see some samples of lowquality distorted images solved here:

Sure,there is still room for improvements and optimization and I hope that I willget near perfect in the first stable version If you have any pictures youwant me to try send them or post the link here and I will test with them.

3.airplanes ? no .. these will be ignored. Artificial Earth Satellites and asteroidsyes - see here:

4. I know very-verylittle Chinese I started to learn on my own some time ago but gave up due tolack of time. I found the site on google and I saw that there are many peoplehere who love astronomy. The application also has a database through whichpeople can share images and astrometry data world wide. This way we can all collaborateand compare images and data. I hope people will find this feature useful aswell. What do you think?

Hello, Larry, your software reminds me of another software-astrometrica, it's now the leading software for astrometry in amateur astronomer communities. Your software seems to surpass it in many ways,excellent job!

BTW, I think you should design a software that is specifically used for the purpose of nova search, coz nova search is the most popular and fruitful field for amateur astronomers, a lot of amateur astronomers across the world are doing the job. Some of my Chinese fellows even launched a sky-survey project that led to the discovery of some novae (moreover, two comets were also discovered in a similar sky-survey project aiming at comet search) in the past two years

One question, are you from Romanian? Is it a European country?

Thank you! And I hope to finish the alpha version as soon as possible ... I just realized that how big this project got for me little free time
And yes I am thinking of adding several modules to the current version to do stuff like nova search and I am thinking maybe starting a collaboration project worl wide for the amateurs to refine a big catalog  of stars and galaxies ... something better then the ones currently available aka usnob1.0 and leda (which for the most part are automatically generated and they have quite a few mistakes)
