These incredible pictures show a spectacular feeding frenzy on sardines that took place off the South African coast drawing in predators from far and wide.
The sardine run, which happens at the same time every year, is embedded in the 'memories' or sharks, dolphins and other predators, which wait patiently for the fish's inevitable migration.
Forced into a dense ball of thousands of sardines, by shifting cold currents of water and by circling and herding dolphins, the fish start to panic and dart wildly.
Looming: Out from the depths a shark pierces through the dense ball of sardines which remain just a few inches from his jaws
Herding: A dolphin beats its tail hard, herding the giant shoal of sardines in to a tight and frantic bait ball
Success: As the sardines panic and get left behind from the shoal, some unlucky ones are swiped by the hunting dolphins
The attacks also rain down from above as gannets spear into the water plucking off sardines without any warning
The attacks come from all directions, with dolphins and sharks circling below and birds shooting in from above, leaving the fish with few places to run and hide
Before the feeding frenzy began, the bait ball was a towering, swirling dense column of sardines constantly turning in on itself trying to escape the predators
From above, the bait ball is only apparent by the flock of birds that flies overhead, waiting for an opportune chance to strike
Up close and personal: One gannet got a little close to the photographers lens with its sharp beak as it penetrated the startled fish
Frenzy: The shoals darts in front of the camera panicked by the predators circling above and below them
The water gets congested with predators and prey, each darting and fleeing, hunting and panicking. Many gannet with die during the frenzy - speared accidentally by other birds
While pleased with his pictures, he has put the date of the natural phenomenon in his diary to try to capture even better shots next year
Divers are just feet away from the action which is unfolding beneath the boat
