A puffin was trying to make its way home with its catch when a gang of gulls spotted an opportunity to steal its food
The puffin's mouthful of sand eels was the target of the flock's attack
The puffin was besieged by the flock who were trying to take fish straight out of its beak
The gulls are a frequent threat to puffins on the Farne Islands and like to try to steal their food as the puffins make their way back to their burrows from the sea
The puffin had crammed as many sand eels into its beak as possible, which made it an attractive target for its attackers
The puffin was vastly outnumbered by the gulls but did its best to hold on tight to its catch to take home for its family
The gull muggers left the puffin in a flap as it tried to run away with its haul
The Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast are home to more than 40,000 nesting pairs of puffins
The opportunistic gulls take their chance to steal food when the puffin makes its way to its burrow, where this one was looking to find shelter
The puffin made a dash to escape the seagulls' clutches while it still had some of its fish supper left
With the job done, a gull stayed on the ground and watched as the puffin fled the scene
