彗星C/2011 L4 (Panstarrs)是一颗非常有趣的彗星,主要是它仅在0.3AU距离绕
过太阳。这是一颗很活跃的彗星,因此在2013年春季北半球有很大的机会成为非
常明亮的肉眼彗星。我们从2012年以来定期监测这颗彗星。
使用R过滤监测彗星尘埃彗发,用整个彗发直径和分别选定彗核周围10000公里及
20000公里半径分析活动变化。
彗星活动变化非常接近明亮彗星采用的平均速率公式:
m1 = 3.46 + 5*log(D) + 10.36*log(r) mag
关于绝对星等3.46,可能是彗核高度活跃,整个尘埃彗发直径从2012年二月的
50000公里成长到2012年十月的120000公里。
分析是基于二月21日到2012年十月之间35个彗发总亮度和32个多孔径测量。
如果彗星将继续这一增亮趋势,它应该能够到达最大亮度-1等和在黑暗的天空接
近+1等以及10° - 20° 长尾。

目前2011L4已经接近太阳视线,很难观测了,明年一月下旬将重新出现在南半球,亮度进入8等范围,期待后续观测情况。

12月18日2011L4重新被澳大利亚Rob Kaufman拍摄到,根据照片的对比星估计亮度为9.8等,MPEC预报10.2等。

Tail to WNW, small coma with elongation sweeping back to a broad looking tail
with northern edge more pronounced and extended more than southern edge,
moonlight.

Moonlight, no tail, bright inner coma/central condensation with diffuse outer
coma. I was able to glimpse the comet using 7x50B but not good enough to make an
estimate.
