Hi,
All of you took part in the ISAN in past years and we need people organizing events in China. I am pasting a copy of a letter that I am asking you to send to everyone you know that is interested in astronomy. This year is going to be fantastic! Thank you. Donna
The Sidewalk Astronomers are working to promote International Sidewalk Astronomy Night (ISAN). This year, ISAN will be held on April 4, 2009 as part of the 100 Hours of Astronomy Cornerstone Project’s Global Star Party. ISAN was started in 2007 as a way to celebrate the idea of amateur astronomers sharing the night sky with the public and to aspire to making it possible for all the people of the planet to be able to see the night sky. ISAN, as part of the 100 Hours of Astronomy Global Star Party, will be the largest public star party ever held and we hope to have millions of people participating.
Because of the International Year of Astronomy and the 100 Hours project, we are encouraging amateur astronomers to expand the Global Star Party and do public events throughout the 100 hours. We are also involved in other IYA projects but we need help finding astronomers and those interested in doing public events.
We are looking for volunteers to help contact amateur astronomy clubs and individuals in China to help organize events. If you are interested, we would be very happy to welcome you to our organization. If you are already working with the SPoC from your country on 100 Hours or other IYA projects, we would like to know what events you are planning and ask that you please register them on the website www.100hoursofastronomy.org . Please visit the website to learn more about the international efforts of this cornerstone project.
One of the main goals of IYA is to build a lasting network of astronomy related organizations and we would also ask that amateur astronomers join the Sidewalk Astronomers so that we can collaborate on future events. www.sidewalkastronomers.us .
