Couldn't you have sent him some chocolates, too?

I am jealous of that balloon, it has travelled further than I have! How amazing that it never popped or a bird didn't try to land on it, quite remarkable. I wonder if the two children will keep in touch.

They should find a way of honouring the deal and getting him to Chester Zoo. I'm sure someone would sponsor it for the publicity.

marc: I've been making an effort to be pleasant but this is clearly a silly story and, as you will recall, I am not in favour of deluding children. We have religion for that.
As you are aware, Mrs Catcher and myself have two wonderful children, both brought up in a very hard-hearted, logical and fantasy-free home: no fairies, no christmas etc. They have turned out woderfully well - just like me, cynical, snearing, joyless, self-opinionated and intolerant. On the plus side, they have no illusions, they do not think anybody owes them anything, they don't suffer from envy or fools. Oh and both very very successful.
I feel I have proved my parenting skills - have you?

If children need a fantasy or two then they should listen to politicians!
What's the point letting kids belive such rubbish.
marc, I don't celebrate christmas for religious reasons - I hate buying presents.
Mr M, I always pop kid's balloon - then look menacingly at the parents.

Impossible! The prevailing winds would not take it to China and the the differential pressure between the balloon and atmosphere would have burst it. It must have got to China in somebody's suitcase.

wow, would have been awesome if somehow a camera was attached to the balloon so you could see what it saw during its journey.

Excellent idea Eric! Maybe Nicolas Chorier (kite photography guy) could try it since he already has the aerial setup. I just can't believe this balloon made it all the way to China!
