Triton 海卫一
The Voyager 2 spacecraft took this color photo ofNeptune's moon Triton on Aug. 24 1989, at a range of 330,000 miles. Theimage was made from pictures taken through the green, violet andultraviolet filters. In this technique, regions that are highlyreflective in the ultraviolet appear blue in color. In reality, thereis no part of Triton that would appear blue to the eye. The brightsouthern hemisphere of Triton, which fills most of this frame, isgenerally pink in tone, as is the even brighter equatorial band. Thedarker regions north of the equator also tend to be pink or reddish incolor.
