Hello jerry,
Last weekend was the observing night and unfortunately it was poor, with a lot of clouds. It cleared for about half an hour and a number of people were able to try the refractor. Everyone was very impressed, especially when they used high power and could see sharp Airy Rings. As far as selling these ED 80's is concerned, I have 2 problems. Firstly people are reluctant to buy an unknown brand. It seems thy would rather spend hundreds of dollars more for a Williams Optics, or thousands more for a Takahashi, because these scopes have a good name. I believe your ED80 is in the same class - at least with the Williams Optics. The other problem is I don't have a store front (our main business is book publishing) and was hoping my connections with the Astronomy association would generate more interest. I will give it more time now that some members have seen the product and word may get around. I noticed 3 or 4 people wrote down the Intane details, so I hope you don't get nuisance emails. If you like you can direct them back to me. Attached is an image I took of Eta Carina nebulae through the ED 80 with a digital SLR camera. Please excuse the defraction spikes on the brighter stars - I made a 'cross hair' on the dew sheild to create this look (because I like the effect).
kind regards,
Paul |
